Background

Historically, life has been difficult for women! Even while these challenges may be systemic and propagated by larger institutions, they can also be seen in the littlest things - things as seemingly inconsequential as pockets. The subject of sexism dictating whether a garment has pockets has been covered extensively. Men's clothing is more likely to have capacious, visible pockets, while women's clothing has small pockets or none at all, and questions often asked - Do women need pockets? Are they entitled to pockets? Is it not better to keep big, functional pockets only for men? After all, women can carry around their things in handbags. Even though they seem innocuous, these kinds of conversations reinforce a negative social norm -- one that denies women access to trivial but basic necessities such as pockets.

We intervene here in an attempt to make life a little easier, especially for women. The Kangaroo Project aims to ensure no woman ever goes without pockets for too long - and we won't be giving our money to the purse industry, since Kangaroo offers easy-to-wear detachable pockets, which can be attached and detached with a click of your finger, just like that. It's a SNAP!
